Net Metering

What is Net Metering?

Net Metering is a process in which solar panels or other renewable energy generators are connected to a public-utility power grid and surplus power is transferred onto the grid, allowing customers to offset the cost of power drawn from the utility.

Net Metering is available with BMU. Call (573) 471-3328 for more information.

Application Process for Your Net Metering Project

Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities (BMU) must review your renewable project before operation/installation to determine whether the renewable system could adversely affect the safety, reliability or quality of the local electric utility service. View the complete Interconnection Application and instructions below.

  • BMU reviews net metering application system designs and replies to the customer within 30 days (10 kilowatt (kW) and below systems) or 90 days (11 kW - 100 kW systems).
  •  If more information is needed, BMU will contact the installer.
  •  When the system is approved, BMU will contact the customer and installer with an approval letter that approves the customer to proceed with system installation.
