Sewer Backflow Device's Keeps Sewer Water Out

During heavy rain events like we are currently experiencing, we realize the importance of installing backflow devices on our homes basement. Did you know BMU will provide a free backflow device to our customers wishing to install one? Just give us a call or drop by our BMU lobby to request your backflow device, the installation will be at the customers expense, but the device is on us! You can read more about this in our BMU Policy Manual page 28, Part IV, Section 2e on our website:  BMU's General Rules, Policies & Regulations

There are many reasons why sewer water could back up into your home. A blockage in the sewer lines could cause the water levels to rise into your home, or the pipes might not be able to handle the runoff after a big storm. As the pipes fill up with water with nowhere else to go, the laws of physics mean that your basement sewer pipe will be a logical outlet unless you’ve got a way to stop it. A sewer backflow preventer helps to keep sewer water out if  the pressure in the pipes build up. Backwater valves are designed to close when you need them to help prevent water from getting into your home’s sewer lines, overwhelming the pipes, and flooding your home.  They do require a maintenance cleanout from time to time to keep them performing properly.
